Belum Caves is the second largest cave in Indian subcontinent and the longest caves in plains of Indian Subcontinent, known for its stalactite and stalagmite formations. Belum Caves have long passages, spacious chambers, fresh water galleries and siphons. The caves reach its deepest point (120 feet from entrance level) at the point known as Pataalaganga. Belum Caves derives its name from "Bilum" Sanskrit word for caves.^[1] In Telugu language, it is called Belum Guhalu. Belum Caves has a length of 3229 metres, making it the second largest natural caves in Indian Subcontinent.

Originally discovered in 1884 by a British surveyor Robert Bruce Foote, later in 1982-84, a team of German speleologists headed by H Daniel Gebauer conducted a detailed exploration of the caves. Thereafter in 1988, the state government declared them protected, and Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) developed the caves as a tourist attraction in February 2002. Today, 3.5 km of the cave has been successfully explored, though only 1.5 km is open to tourists.^[1]

Discovery

Even though the Belum Caves were known to the locals, the first records of Caves were mentioned in expedition report of Robert Bruce Foote, in 1884. Thereafter, Belum Caves remained unnoticed for almost a century till a German team headed by Herbert Daniel Gebauer conducted detailed exploration of the caves in 1982 and 1983. The German expedition was assisted by the locals Mr B. Chalapathi Reddy, Mr Ramaswami Reddy, Mr Boyu Madduleti, Mr K. Padmanabhaiah, Mr K. Chinnaiah and Mr A. Sunkanna. ^[2]

The caves are now managed by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has developed the pathways in around 2 km of the length of the caves, provided soft illumination and has created fresh-air-shafts in the caves. At many places inside the cave, APTDC has installed bridges, staircase, etc. for easy movement inside tha cave. It has also created a canteen, washroom and toilet facilities near the entry point.

There is a giant Buddha Statue near a hillock near the Belum Caves. The area of cave known as "Meditation hall" was used by Buddhist Monks. The relics of Buddhist period were found here. These relics are now housed in museum at Ananthapur.

ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು - ಒಂದು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಕೆ
'ನಾಟಕ ಬದುಕಿನ ಕನ್ನಡಿ' ಎಂದೊಡನೆಯೇ ಬದುನಲ್ಲಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬಗೆಯ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳೂ ನಾಟಕದ ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯ ಅಂಗಗಳಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ದೊಡ್ಡವರಂತೆಯೇ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ನಾಟಕದ ಅಂಗಗಳಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಕ್ಕಳ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಪರಿಕಲ್ಪನೆ, ಹಾಗು ಅದು ಪಾಶ್ಚಾತ್ಯ ಚಿಂತನೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿತವಾದುದು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ನಾಟಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯಲಾದ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲವಾದರೂ, ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಕಥೆಯ ತಿರುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುವುದು ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತವೆ. ಉಪನಿಷತ್ತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಲಿಯುವ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶಿಷ್ಯ ಬಾಲಕನೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಕಲಿಸುವ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗುರು ಕಥೆಯ ಫಲನಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ವಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನಾದರೂ ಕಥೆಯ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಫಲಿತಗಳು ಶಿಷ್ಯನನ್ನೇ ಓಲೈಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಉಪನಿಷತ್ತುಗಳ ಈ ಅಂಶಗಳಿಂದ ಕಥನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕರ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಗುರುತರತೆಯನ್ನು ಭಾವಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ಇನ್ನಿತರೆ ಗದ್ಯ ಪದ್ಯಾದಿ ಕಾವ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಬಾಲಕರನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿರುವ ರೀತಿಯು ವೀರಾವೇಶ ಕೂಡಿದವಾಗಿ, ನ್ಯಾಯ ನೀತಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುವವರಾಗಿ, ಗುರುಹಿರಿಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌರವಭಾವನೆ ಹೊಂದಿದವರಾಗಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಬಗೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಣಗಳು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬಹುಮುಖ್ಯ ಬಾಲಕ ಕೇಂದ್ರಿತ ಪಾತ್ರ ಪೋಷಣೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಮೂಲವನ್ನು ಡಾ.ರಿಡ್ಜ್ವೇ ಗುರುತಿಸುವಂತೆ 'ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಮೂಲತಃ 'ವೀರಪೂಜೆ'ಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಆಚಣೆಯ ಅಂಗಗಳು. ರಾಮಲೀಲಾ ಹಾಗು ಕೃಷ್ಣಲೀಲಾ ಮುಂತಾದವುಗಳು (ಗ್ರೀಕ್ ನಾಟಕಗಳಂತೆ) ಗತಿಸಿದ ವೀರರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಗೌರವಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತಗಳನ್ನು ಪುಷ್ಟೀಕರಿಸುವ ಉಜ್ವಲ ದೃಷ್ಟಾಂತಗಳು'.ಎಂಬ ಅವರ ವಾದವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗದಿದ್ದರೂ ಈ ಚಿಂತನೆಗೆ ಪುಷ್ಟಿ ಕೊಡುವಂತೆ ಕಥನಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯ ಬಾಲಕ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಾದ ರಾಮ-ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರು, ಲವ-ಕುಶರು, ಭೀಮಾರ್ಜುನರು, ಕೃಷ್ಣ, ಗಣೇಶ-ಸುಬ್ರ್ರಹ್ಮಣ್ಯ, ಮುಂತಾದವರುಗಳು ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿವಿಧ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ವೀರೋಚಿತ ಬಗೆಯನ್ನು ಮುಂಬರುವ ಯುವ ಜನಾಂಗ ಕಲಿಯಲಗತ್ಯವಾದ ಮಾದರಿ ಬಗೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇದೇ ಮಾದರಿ ಮುಂದುವರೆದಿದೆ. ಕಥನ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಬಹುತೇಕ ನಾಟಕಗಳೂ ರಚಿತವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಕಾವ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುವ ನಿರೂಪಣಾ ಅಂಶವು ನಾಟಕದ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ. ಮೂಲ ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಭಿನ್ನ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲವಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಚರ್ಚಿತ ಮಾದರಿಯೇ ಮುಂದುವರೆದಿದೆ. ನಾಟಕಕಾರರುಗಳ ಉದ್ದೇಶವು ಕೇವಲ ಮನೋರಂಜನೆಯಾಗಿರದೇ ಜನತೆಯ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸುಧಾರಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳು ಇವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಸಿದ್ಧ ಮಾದರಿಯು ರಚಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. 'ಲೋಕವೃತ್ತ'ದ (ಮಾನವನ ಬದುಕಿನ ಒಳಗು ಹೊರಗುಗಳು) ಅನುಕರಣೆಯೇ ನಾಟಕ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ವಾತಾವರಣವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಭ್ಯ, ಶಿಷ್ಟ ಮತ್ತು ಉದಾತ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದುದರಿಂದಲೇ ಅಶ್ಲೀಲತೆ, ಜುಗುಪ್ಸೆ ಹಾಗು ಅರುಚಿಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಮಾಡುವ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳೆನಿಸಿರುವ ವಧೆ, ಮೋಸ, ಭೋಜನ, ಸ್ನಾನ, ಸುರತ, ಅನುಲೇಪನ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಷೇಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ (ದಶರೂಪಕ 3-34,35). ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಿವರಗಳೂ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕರ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ವಿವೇಚಿಸಿರುವ ಬಗೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಗು ಅದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಮೂಲ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಬಹುದು. ಹಾಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ರಚಿತವಾದ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದು ದೃಶ್ಯರೂಪವಾಗಿ ರಚಿಸಲಾದುದೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ರಾಮನ ಬಾಲ್ಯ, ಲವ ಕುಶರ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಸುಮಾರು 2000 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಬಾಲಕರ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ ಮಹಾಭಾರತವನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿದ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ಬಾಲಕ ಪಾತ್ರದ ನಿರ್ವಚನೆಗಳು ಅತ್ಯಲ್ಪ. ಬಾಲ್ಯದ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಪ್ರಾಮುಖ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವುದರ ಕಾರಣವಿರಬಹುದೇನೋ.
ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಂಬಿತವಾಗಿರುವ ಬಾಲಕ-ಬಾಲಕೀಯರ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಥೂಲವಾಗಿ ಚರ್ಚಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ, ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ನಾಟಕಕಾರನೆನಿಸಿದ ಭಾಸ ರೂಪಿಸಿದ ಬಾಲಕರ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ವೀರೋಚಿತವಾದವುಗಳು. ಮಧ್ಯಮ ವ್ಯಾಯೋಗದ ಮೂರು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾಣತ್ಯಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿ ನಿಂತ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು. ಘಟೋದ್ಕಚನ ಪಾತ್ರವೂ ಸಹ ಬಾಲಭಾವದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಚಿತ್ರಿತವಾದರೂ ಯೌವನದ ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳ ಗುರುತುಗಳು ಬಿಂಬಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಬಾಲಚರಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಮೂಲಕ ಅವನ ಬಾಲಲೀಲೆಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ದೈವೀಕಚರ್ಯೆಗಳು ಬಿಂಬಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಊರುಭಂಗದಲ್ಲಿನ ದುರ್ಜಯನ ಪಾತ್ರವು ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ದುರಂತದ ನೋಟವನ್ನು ದಕ್ಕಿಸಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಶೂದ್ರಕನ ಮೃಚ್ಛಕಟಿಕದ ರೋಹಸೇನನ ಪಾತ್ರ ಕನಸುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಸಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಬಡತನದ ದಾರುಣತೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಾಳಿದಾಸನ ಮಾಲವಿಕಾಗ್ನಿ ಮಿತ್ರ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ವಸುಮತಿಯ ಪಾತ್ರ ತನ್ನ ಬಾಲಭಾವದಿಂದಾಗಿ ಅಗ್ನಿಮಿತ್ರನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಣಯವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಉತ್ತಮ ಪುರಾವೆಯನ್ನೊದಗಿಸುವ ಪಾತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಾಳಿದಾಸನದೇ ಆದ ವಿಕ್ರಮೋರ್ವಶೀಯದ ಆಯುವಿನ ಪಾತ್ರ ವೀರ ಬಾಲಕನ ಮಾದರಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಭಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಶಾಕುಂತಲ ನಾಟಕದ ಸರ್ವದಮನನ ಪಾತ್ರ ದುಷ್ಯಂತ ಶಕುಂತಲೆಯರ ಮಿಲನದ ದ್ಯೋತಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಭವಭೂತಿ ಬರೆದ ಉತ್ತರ ರಾಮ ಚರಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುವ ಲವ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಶರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ತೋರಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣನನ್ನು ಸೋಲಿಸುವ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ ಬಾಲಕರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿದಾಯಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಚಿತ್ರಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. 18ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಕಲ್ಯದ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ನೃಸಿಂಹನು ಸಹ ಇದೇ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಜನಕ ಜಾನಂದಮ್ ಎಂಬ ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಬರೆದು ಲವ-ಕುಶ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೀರಾಮಚಂದ್ರನ ವಾಗ್ವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಭಿನ್ನ ಬಗೆಯನ್ನು ಮನೋಜ್ಞವಾಗಿ ವರ್ಣಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ವಿಶಾಖದತ್ತನ ಮುದ್ರಾರಾಕ್ಷಸ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ಚಂದನದಾಸನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮಾತ್ಯರಾಕ್ಷಸನ ಮಗ ಚಿಕ್ಕಹುಡುಗನ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಘಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾಜಶೇಖರನು ಬಾಲ ರಾಮಾಯಣ ಹಾಗು ಬಾಲಭಾರತಗಳು ಬಾಲಕರಿಗೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸುವಂತಿದ್ದರೂ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರೌಢವಾಗಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಧಸಾಲಭಂಜಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾದ ಮರದ ಬೊಂಬೆಗಳು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಬಾಲಕರಿಗೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ಮನರಂಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಜಯದೇವನು ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ರಾಘವ ನಾಟಕದ ಮೊದಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡದ ಕಥೆಯ ನಾಟಕೀಯ ನಿರ್ವಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮನ ಆದರ್ಶ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಹುವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಶಂಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ನಾಟಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಾದ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮುದ್ದುಮುದ್ದಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ವೀರತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೊರತೆಗೆದರೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಬರೆದ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಲೆಂದೇ ಹೊರತು ಸಮಾಜದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಧಾರೆಗೆ ಮೌಲಿಕ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವವರಂತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಲಾಗಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ತಿಳಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು:ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ನಾಟಕ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯು 50 ವರ್ಷ ಪೂರೈಸಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ಮಣಿಪಾಲದ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ನಟ ಡಾ.ಎಚ್.ಶಾಂತಾರಾಂ, ಮುಂಬೈನ ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿ ಬೈಲೂರು ಬಾಲಚಂದ್ರರಾವ್ ಮತ್ತು ಬಳ್ಳಾರಿಯ ರಂಗ ಸಂಘಟಕ ಕೆ.ಚನ್ನಪ್ಪ ಅವರಿಗೆ `ಜೀವಮಾನ ರಂಗ ಸಾಧನೆ` ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಇದೇ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ 47 ಜನರಿಗೆ `ಸುವರ್ಣ ರಂಗ ಸಾಧಕ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ`ಯನ್ನೂ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಬುಧವಾರ ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವಿಷಯ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಿದ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಡಾ.ಬಿ.ವಿ.ರಾಜಾರಾಂ, `ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಗಣನೀಯ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ 50 ಜನರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮೂವರು ಹಿರಿಯರಿಗೆ ಜೀವಮಾನ ರಂಗಸಾಧನೆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು 47 ಜನರಿಗೆ `ಸುವರ್ಣ ರಂಗ ಸಾಧಕ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ` ನೀಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ` ಎಂದರು.

ಇದೇ 20ರಂದು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ 50 ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕೃತರಿಗೂ ತಲಾ 5,000 ರೂಪಾಯಿ ನಗದು, ನಟರಾಜ ವಿಗ್ರಹ, ಶಾಲು ನೀಡಿ ಗೌರವಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ಆಚರಣೆಗಾಗಿ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ 20 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂಪಾಯಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಅನುದಾನ ಒದಗಿಸಿದೆ ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಯ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವದ ನೆನಪಿಗಾಗಿ 50 ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ರಂಗ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ವಿವಿಧ ಕಂತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಕೃತಿ ಸುವರ್ಣ ಮಹೋತ್ಸವ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಆಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹತ್ತರ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿರುವ 14 ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ `ರಂಗ ಸಂಪನ್ನರು` ಮಾಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನೂ ಹೊರತರಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರ.

ಮೊನ್ನೆ 18-5-2011 ರಂದು ಸಂಜೆ 7 ಕ್ಕೆ ಎ.ಡಿ.ಎ. ರಂಗಮಂದಿರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರ ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ನಾಟಕ 'ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಹಸನ' ನಾಟಕದ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವಿತ್ತು. ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚೆಯೇ 4.30ಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರೊಡನೆ ಒಂದು ರಂಗ ಸಂವಾದ ಏರ್ಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾಟಕ ನೋಡಲು ಬಂದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ರಂಗಕರ್ಮಿಗಳು ಹಾಗು ಇನ್ನಿತರ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷರೊಡನೆ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರು ಮುಕ್ತವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು. ತಾವು ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡದೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಕೆಲಕಾಲ ಪಕ್ಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿದಿದ್ದು ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಹೆದರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿ ನಾವುಗಳು ಪರಸ್ಪರರ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಸಂವಾದಿಸುವ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಏರ್ಪಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದರು. ತಮ್ಮ ಹೊಸನಾಟಕದ ಬಗೆಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ - ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಟ್ಟು ಮೋಸಮಾಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಳ್ಳರಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದು ಎಚ್ಚರದ ಸೂಚನೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ನಾಟಕ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಆಸ್ತಿಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಿಡಿಕಾರಿದರು. ನಾಟಕ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಹಾಗು ಪತ್ರಿಕಾ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳತ್ತ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಾಗ ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಟಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಯಾವ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳೂ ಬರೆಯಲಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಾ ಕೂರುವ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ನಾವುಗಳೇ ನಮ್ಮ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ನಾಟಕದ ಆಶಯ ಹಾಗು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನದ ವಿಶೇಷಗಳನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಿತರರಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು. ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಆಗದೇ ಇರುವಂತಹ ಸಂಗತಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಎಂದರೆ -ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದು, ರಂಗಸಂವಾದದಂತಹ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಪೂರ್ಣ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಆಗಿದೆ.

ಆದರೆ ದುರಂತವೆಂದರೆ ಯಾವ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲೂ ಉತ್ತಮ ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಹೊರಬರುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಹನ್ ರಾಕೇಶ್ ಕೊನೆಯ ನಾಟಕಕಾರರಾದರೆ, ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಿರೀಶ್ ಕಾರ್ನಾಡ್ ಕೊನೆಯ ನಾಟಕಕಾರರಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. 40-50 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆಯೇ ನಾಟಕರಚನೆ ನಿಂತುಹೋಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಈ ಅಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಶುದ್ಧ ನಾಟಕ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬರೆದವರೇ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಸಣ್ಣಕತೆಗಳು ಕಾದಂಬರಿಗಳು ಮುಂತಾಗಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಪ್ರಾಕಾರಗಳ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರಾಕಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳು ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈಗ ನಾಟಕಕಾರರ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಇದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಅನೇಕ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳಬಗೆಗೆ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯಗಳು ವ್ಯಕ್ತವಾದಂತೆ ಆ ಎಲ್ಲವುಗಳಿಗೂ ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ನೋಡಲು ಬರುವುದೊಂದೇ ಉತ್ತಮ ಉಪಾಯ ಎಂದರು.

ನಂತರ ಸಂಜೆ 7ಕ್ಕೆ 'ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಹಸನ' ನಾಟಕ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಇತ್ತು. ಮೊಲಿಯರ್ ನ 'ತಾರ್ತುಫ್' ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಎ.ಎನ್.ಮೂರ್ತಿರಾಯರು ಆಷಾಢಭೂತಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರೂಪಾಂತರ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದನ್ನೇ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರು ಕಳೆದ ವರ್ಷ ಹಿಂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್.ಡಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ 'ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ತಾರ್ತುಫ್' ಎಂಬುದಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇರಬಹುದಾದ ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತ ಕಳ್ಳರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ, ಗೋಮುಖ ವ್ಯಾಘ್ರಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಈ ನಾಟಕ ಕಟಕಿಯಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿರುವ ವಿಷಯವು ಸಮಾಜದ ಸ್ವಾಸ್ಥ್ಯದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿರುವುದಾದರೂ ಹಾಸ್ಯ ಆ ಸ್ವಾಸ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಹೊಣೆಗಾರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊತ್ತಿದೆ. ಮೊಲಿಯೇರ್ ನೂ ಸಹ ಇಂಥದೇ ಸಿಹಿಗುಳಿಗೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಕಹಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದನು. ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರು ಸಹ ಈ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಅದರೊಳಗಿರುವ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಷ್ಟೇ ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ವರ್ತನೆಗಳು ಹಾಸ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕುತ್ತವೆ.

ನಾಟಕದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಪಾತ್ರವಾದ ಸಾಹುಕಾರ್ ವೆಂಕಟಗಿರಿಯಪ್ಪನ ಬೀಗನಾದ ಸುಬ್ಬಣ್ಣನ ಪಾತ್ರದಮೂಲಕ ಕಂಡುಬರುವ ಗಂಭೀರ ಚರ್ಯೆಯು ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾಯಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾಹುಕಾರ್ ವೆಂಕಟಗಿರಿಯಪ್ಪ ಹಾಗು ಆಚಾರ್ಯರ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮಾಡಿದವರುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ನಟನಾ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದಿಂದ ನಗೆ ಉಕ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಉಳಿದಂತೆ ಪಾತ್ರಧಾರಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯ ಗಂಭೀರತೆಯನ್ನು ಆಧಾನಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡವರಂತೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಧುನಿಕ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುವ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಕ ಸೋಗು ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಸ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿನ ಬಂಡಾಯ ಮಾತ್ರ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಅವರ ಈ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈ ಸೋಗಿನ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳ ವಿಜೃಂಭಣೆಗೆ ಕಾರಣಕರ್ತರಾಗುವ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳ ವೈಪರೀತ್ಯದ ಬಗೆಗೂ ಕಟಕಿಯಾಡಿದ್ದರೆ ನಾಟಕಕ್ಕೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹರವು ದಕ್ಕುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಲೀಸ್ ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗೊಂದಲವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಧೂರ್ತ ಪೀಡಿತ ಅಮಾಯಕ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ಧದ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಚರಣೆಗೆ ಬಂದ ಪೋಲೀಸರು ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೇ ತಮ್ಮ ನಿಲುವನ್ನು ಬದಲಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕರೆತಂದವನೇ ಧೂರ್ತನೆಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಬಂಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುವ ಈ ದೃಶ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ ದೃಶ್ಯರೂಪೀ ತರ್ಕ ದೊರೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪದ್ಯಗಳು ಸಮಯೋಚಿತವಾಗಿ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಸಶಕ್ತಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸರಳ ರಂಗ ಸಜ್ಜಿಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಂಗಪರಿಕರ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರೀ ಸಂಗೀತಸಂಯೋಜನೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ನಾಟಕ ಉದ್ದೇಶಿತ ಪರಿಣಾಮ ಬೀರುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.-

ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಹೊಸ ದಿಕ್ಕು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗುವ ಮೂರನೆಯ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಹರಿಕಾರ. ಜಾತ್ರಾ ನಾಟಕಗಳ ತಂತ್ರವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಖರ್ಚಿನ (ಬಡತನದಲ್ಲಿ) ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿದವರು ಇವರು. 70 ದಶಕದ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದ ಇವರು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ನಟರುಗಳಿಗೆ ರಂಗ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಾಗಾರವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರ ಏವಂ ಇಂದ್ರಜಿತ್ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡಿಸಿ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿದ್ದವರು ಬಿ.ವಿ.ಕಾರಂತರು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರು ಸಮುದಾಯ ತಂಡಗಳು ಇವರ ಬೋಮಾ ಮತ್ತು ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಯೋಗಿಸಿದೆ. ಮೈಸೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಂಗಾಧರಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶಶಿಧರ್ ಭಾರಿಘಾಟ್ ಅವರುಗಳು ಈ ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಪ್ರೇಮಾಕಾರಂತ ಅವರು ಹುಚ್ಚುಕುದುರೆ (ಅನುವಾದ ಬಿ.ವಿ.ಕಾರಂತ) ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಗೆ ತೀರ ಹತ್ತಿರವಾಗಿದ್ದ ಈ ರಂಗ ದಿಗ್ಗಜನಿಗೆ ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ನಮನ

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ವಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಗ್ಗೋಡು ಗ್ರಾಮಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಸ್ಥಾನವಿದೆ. ಹೆಗ್ಗೋಡು ಬಳಿಯ ಬೀಮನಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾದರಿಯಾದ 'ಚರಕ' ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಗಮನ ಸೆಳೆದಿದೆ. ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬನೆ, ತನ್ಮೂಲಕ ಸ್ವಾಭಿಮಾನಿ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುವ 'ಚರಕ' ಕೈಮಗ್ಗ ಬಟ್ಟೆಯ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿದೆ. ಸುಮಾರು ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಕೆಲವೇ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಗೊಂಡ ಈ 'ಚರಕ'ದ ರೂವಾರಿ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ-ಖ್ಯಾತ ರಂಗ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರು.

ಈ ಚರಕ ಚಳವಳಿಯ ಹುಟ್ಟು, ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ವಿಸ್ಮಯವೆನಿಸಿದರೂ, ಅದರ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ರಮ, ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕತೆ, ದೂರದರ್ಶಿತ್ವ, ಹಾಗು ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶೀಲತೆಗಳು ಒಂದು ಮೊತ್ತವಾಗಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ-ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಹೊಸ ಆಶಾಕಿರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಂದು ಇದು ನೂರಾರು ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಸ್ವಾವಲಂಬೀ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಕಾರೀ ತತ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ತಾಜಾ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು ಇಡೀ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲೇ ಒಂದು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಎನಿಸಿದೆ.

’ಚರಕ’ದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕರ್ತರು ತಮ್ಮ ವಿರಾಮದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿದ ನಾಟಕ 'ಆಚಾರ್ಯನ ಪ್ರಹಸನ' ಅವರ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿಸ್ತರಣೆಯಾಗಿ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿದೆ.

ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು

ನಾಟಕದ ಹೆಸರೇ ಸೂಚಿಸುವಂತೆ, ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಹಸನವು ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ಆಷಾಡಭೂತಿತನವನ್ನು ವಿಡಂಬನೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಒಂದು ನಾಟಕ. ಕಳೆದ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಎ.ಎನ್. ಮೂರ್ತಿರಾಯರು ಇದೇ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಆಷಾಡಭೂತಿ ಎಂಬ ನಾಟಕವೊಂದನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಅದಕ್ಕೂ ಮೊದಲು ಹದಿನೇಳನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಫ್ರೆಂಚ್ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೋಲಿಯರ್ ಮಹಾಕವಿ 'ತಾರ್ತೂಫ್' ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ, ಈ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನಾಧರಿಸಿದ ಮೊದಲ ಪ್ರಹಸನವನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಎರಡೂ ನಾಟಕಗಳಿಗೆ ಮೋಲಿಯರನ ಮಹಾಕೃತಿಯು ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಈಗೇಕೆ ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಹಸನ?

ಇದು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತೊಂದನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನ, ಪ್ರಗತಿಪರ ವಿಚಾರಧಾರೆಗಳು, ಆಧುನಿಕ ಜೀವನ ಶೈಲಿಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿವೆ, ರಾತ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನೆ ಬೆಳಗಿಸಬಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಜ್ವಲತೆಯು ಈ ಯುಗಕ್ಕೆ ದಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಆದರೂ ಆಧುನಿಕ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದೆಂದಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದ ಭಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಆತಂಕಗಳು ಆವರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ. ನಾವು ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಅಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಆತ್ಮಸ್ಥೈರ್ಯದಿಂದಲ್ಲ, ಅಪಾರ ಹೆದರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ. ನೈತಿಕ ಅಧೈರ್ಯವೆಂಬುದು ಆಷಾಡಭೂತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸಲಿಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಳಿಮಾಡಿಸಿದ ವಾತಾವರಣ. ಹಾಗೆಂದು ನಾಟಕ!

ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಗಳು ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು: 'ನಾನು (ನನ್ನ ಜಾತಿಯ) ಮಠಾಧೀಶರ ಕಾಲ ಬಳಿ ಕುಳಿತು, ಅವರ ಸಲಹೆ ಸೂಚನೆಯಂತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯಭಾರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ' ಎಂದರವರು. ಎಲ್ಲ ಜಾತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಮಠಾಧೀಶರೂ ಭವದ ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಭದ್ರವಾದ ಕಣ್ಣಿ ಬಿಗಿದು ತಮ್ಮನ್ನೂ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿಗಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಯಾರು ಯಾರನ್ನು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ದೇವರೇ ಬಲ್ಲ!

ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲವೆ? ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳೂ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರೇ ಹೌದು. ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಒಳಿತು ಕೆಡುಕಿನದಲ್ಲ, ಅರ್ಥಪಲ್ಲಟದ್ದು. ಇಂದಿನ ಸನ್ಯಾಸವು ಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗವನ್ನು ಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಜಂಗಮ ತಾಣಗಳಾಗಬೇಕಿದ್ದ ಮಠಗಳಿಂದು ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಸ್ಥಾವರಗಳಾಗಿವೆ. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಿಧನ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಯೊಬ್ಬರ ಆಸ್ತಿಯು, ಆತ ನಿಧನಹೊಂದಿದಾಗ, ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷದ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರ ಕೋಟಿ ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳಾಗಿತ್ತು ಎಂದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳು ವರದಿ ಮಾಡಿದವು. ಭಾರತ ಸರಕಾರದ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕ ಆಯವ್ಯಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಸಮಾನವಾಗಿದೆ ಈ ಮೊತ್ತ ಎಂದೂ ಸಹ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳು ಬರೆದವು. ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು ಈ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟೇ ಏಕೆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮೊತ್ತದ ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ವಹಿವಾಟು ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ!

ಸನ್ಯಾಸದ ಮೂಲ ಅರ್ಥವೇನು? ಸರ್ವಸಂಗ ಪರಿತ್ಯಾಗಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಮಾದರಿಯಿದೆಯೆ? ಹಳೆಯ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸೋಣ. ಸೂರದಾಸರು ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೇ ಕುರುಡಾಗಿ ಕುಳಿತು ದೇವರನ್ನು ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸಿದರು. ರವಿದಾಸರು, ಚಪ್ಪಲಿ ಹೊಲಿಯುವ ತನ್ನ ಕಾಯಕವನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರೆಸುತ್ತಲೇ ಭಗವನ್ನಾಮಸ್ಮರಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ಹಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಸೂರದಾಸರು ಹಾಗೂ ರವಿದಾಸರಂತಹ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳು ಈಗ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆಯೆ? ಹಾಗೇನಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಬಲ್ಲ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ ನಾವು.

ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮಿಗಿಲಾಗಿ ಬಡತನವನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ ನಾವು. ಗಲೀಜು ಬಟ್ಟೆ ತೊಟ್ಟು ಹಾದಿಬದಿಯ ಕಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತು ಧ್ಯಾನಸ್ಥರಾದ ನೂರಾರು ಭಿಕ್ಷುಕರು ರೋಗಿಗಳು ಅಂಗವಿಕಲರುಗಳ ನಡುವಿನಿಂದ ನಿಜವಾದ ಸಂತನನ್ನು ಹೆಕ್ಕಿ ತೆಗೆಯಬಲ್ಲೆವೆ ನಾವು? ಕಾರು ದರಬಾರು ಜರತಾರಿಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಯಾವ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿತಾನೆ ಸಂತನ ಯೋಗ್ಯತೆ ಪಡೆದಾನು ಇಂದು?

ಇಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೂ ಸೂರದಾಸರಾಗಲೀ ರವಿದಾಸರಾಗಲೀ ಟೀವಿಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಕುಣಿಯಲಾರರು, ಕೋಟ್ಯಾಂತರ ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳ ಚಂದಾ ವಸೂಲಿ ಮಾಡಿ, ಚಾರ್ಟರ್ಡ್ ವಿಮಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪಯಣಿಸಿ, ಧ್ಯಾನ ಶಿಬಿರ, ಯೋಗ ಶಿಬಿರ, ಜೀವಿಸುವ ಶಿಬಿರ, ಮೃತ್ಯಿಸುವ ಶಿಬಿರ, ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವ ಶಿಬಿರ... ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾರರು. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಏಕೆ ಜಾಣ ಪ್ರವಚನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಹ ನೀಡಲಾರರು. ಇಂದಿನ ಸಂತರು ಅದೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಲೇಬೇಕು.

ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಹಸನದ ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಬಲ್ಲ. ಆತ ಜಾಣಮಾತುಗಾರ, ಜಾಣ ಸಂಘಟಕ, ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಗೆಲ್ಲುವ ಛಲವಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ. ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಇಂದಿನ ಒಪ್ಪಿತ ಮೌಲ್ಯಗಳು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಆಚಾರ್ಯನಿಗೆ ತಾನು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿ ಎಂಬ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿದೆ. ಯಾಕಿರಬಾರದು? ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು ತಾನೆ? ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಆಶ್ರಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ, ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿ, ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು ತಾನೆ? ಇಂದಿನ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳು ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ದಕ್ಷರೆಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜ್ಮೆಂಟ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟುಗಳೂ ಇವರಿಂದ ಭವದ ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯ ತಂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯತೊಡಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಉತ್ತಮ ವಾಙ್ಮಯ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವಿಚಾರಗಳು, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಷಮತೆ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪ್ರಭಾವ, ಹಣದ ಬಲ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೂಜಿಗಲ್ಲಿನಂತಹ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವಗಳೇ ಸನ್ಯಾಸದ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಎನ್ನುವುದಾದರೆ ನೀವು ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಹಸನವನ್ನು ನೋಡಬೇಕಾದ ಅಗತ್ಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅಥವಾ ಈ ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗುವಂತೆ, ಆಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಈಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಹಾದರ ಕೊಲೆ ಸುಲಿಗೆ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿ ಪೊಲೀಸರ ಬಲೆಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ, ನೀವು ಹುಬ್ಬೇರಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಅಗತ್ಯವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಉಪಯೋಗವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ದುರುಪಯೋಗ ಇದ್ದೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ ತಾನೆ?

ಸಮಾಜಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಘಟಿಸಿ ಒಗ್ಗೂಡಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಅಗಾಧ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಬಿಂಬಿಸುವಂತಿದೆ ಇಂದಿನ ಸಭೆ. ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಶಾಂತಿ ಹಾಗು ಸಮನ್ವಯದ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಬಹುದೆಂಬ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ನಿಮಗೆಂದಾದರೂ ಬಂದಿದೆಯೇ ? ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಹಿಂಸಾತ್ಮಕ ಘರ್ಷಣೆ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿ ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ದೇಶಗಳು ಬೃಹತ್ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ ವ್ಯಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಅಂತಹ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶದ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆ ಹಾಗು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಬಲ್ಲ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹರಿಸಿರುವ ಗಮನ ತೀರಾ ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಪ್ರಯೋಗಿಸುವ ಸಾಧನಗಳು ಬಾಹ್ಯ ಹಾಗು ದಮನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಬಂದಿರುವಾಗ, ವಿಶ್ವಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ತಾಯಿನೆಲದ ನಾಗರೀಕರು ಹೇಗೆ ತಾನೆ ಸಾಧಿಸಬಲ್ಲರು? ಭಯ ಹಾಗು ಸಂಶಯದ ಸುಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾಗಿ ಭೇದಿಸಿ, ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಹಾಗು ಮಾನವ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಎದುರು ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನೇ ತೆರೆದಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನಿಶ್ಚಿತ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ನಿತ್ಯಸತ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬಲ್ಲದು, ಮಾನವನ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗತಿಗಳ ರಾಜಕಾರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಳ ಹಾಗು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ತೊಡಗಬಲ್ಲದು ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ. ಇದು ಸಮಗ್ರವಾಗಿರುವ ಕಾರಣ ಹಿಂದಿನ ತಪ್ಪು ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮೀರಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ತೋರಬಲ್ಲದು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ನಮ್ಮಲಿರುವ ಸಾಮೂಹಿಕ ಮನೋಭಾವನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಿಸಿ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸುವ ಹಾಗು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲಂಘಿಸಿದಾಗ ಹೋರಾಡುವ ಸಪ್ರಮಾಣ ಸಾಧನ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ. ಶಾಂತಿಯುತ ಭವಿಷ್ಯ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಗೌರವಿಸುವ ಶಾಂತಿಯುತ ಸಾಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸಬೇಕು. ಶಾಂತಿ ಹಾಗು ಸಮನ್ವಯದ ಧ್ಯೇಯ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ರವಾನಿಸುವ ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕ ಭಾಷೆಯೆಂದರೆ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ. ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳು ವುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ತಪ್ಪು ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ದೂರಮಾಡಿ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಪರಿಶೋಧಿಸಿದ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಹಾಗು ವಾಸ್ತವತೆಯ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಪುನರ್ಜನ್ಮದ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯ ಅವಕಾಶ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನ್ಯ ಕಲಾಾಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಉದ್ಧಾರವಾಗಬೇಕಾದರೆ ನಿತ್ಯಜೀವನದ ಘರ್ಷಣೆ ಹಾಗು ಶಾಂತಿಯ ವಿಷಮ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳನ್ನು ವ್ಯವಹರಿಸುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳು ವ ದಿಟ್ಟಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ಇಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಸಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆ ಹಾಗು ಸುಧಾರಣೆಯ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಯುದ್ಧಪೀಡಿತ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗು ಕಡು ಬಡತನ, ರೋಗಗ್ರಸ್ತ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಅಸ್ಥಿತ್ವ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಸಮಾಜವನ್ನು ಒಗ್ಗೂಡಿಸಿ ಅರಿವು ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಯುದ್ಧ ನಂತರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನ ಅನೇಕ ಕಥೆಗಳು ದಿನೇ ದಿನೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಮಾನವ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಹಾಗು ಸೌಹಾರ್ದ ಬಲಗೊಳಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ರಂಗಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಯಂತಹ ಜಾಗತಿಕ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ನೆಲೆೆಯೂರಿವೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಸಾಮಥ್ರ್ಯದ ಅರಿವಿದ್ದರೂ ಗನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದವರಿಗೆ, ಬಾಂಬ್ ಎಸೆಯುವವರಿಗೆ ಶಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿ ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರುವುದು ನಗೆಪಾಟಲಾದೀತು. ಪರಕೀಯ ವಂಚಕರಿಂದ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಸಾಧಿಸಲು ಶಕ್ಯವೇ? ಇಂದಿನ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯಂದು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ಸಮನ್ವಯ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿವರ್ತನೆ ಹಾಗು ಸುಧಾರಣೆಯ ಸಾರ್ವತ್ರಿಕ ಸಾಧನವನ್ನಾಗಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಪರ್ಯಾಲೋಚಿಸುವಂತೆ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ಕಾರ್ಯ ತಂತ್ರಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಯುನೈಟೆಡ್ ನೇಷನ್ಸ್ ಬೃಹತ್ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಖರೀದಿಗೆ ಅಗಾಧ ಹಣ ವ್ಯಯಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕ ಮಾನವೀಯ ದುಬಾರಿಯಲ್ಲದ ಪ್ರಭಾವಿ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಸಾಧನವಾಗಿದೆ. ಶಾಂತಿ ನೆಲೆಸಲು ಅದೊಂದು ಉತ್ತರವಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಶಾಂತಿ ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿ ಸಾಧನವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಬೇಕು.

ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕಿ, ನಟಿ, ನಾಟಕಕಾರ್ತಿ, ರಂಗತಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಈಕೆ ಪರೋಪಕಾರಿ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿಂದ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌರವಕ್ಕೆ ಪಾತ್ರರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈಕೆ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ, ದೂರದರ್ಶನ ಹಾಗು ಬಾನುಲಿಗಾಗಿ 15ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾರ್ನರ್ ಸ್ಟೋನ್, ಡಾಗ್ ಬೈಟ್ ಜಸ್ಟೀಸ್, ಪ್ಯಾರಡೈಸ್ ಫಾರ್ ಎವರ್, ಎಕೋಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಪೀಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ಡ್ರಮ್ಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಫ್ರೀಡಮ್ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾದುದು. ಮಾನವ ಹಕ್ಕುಗಳ ಪ್ರಬಲ ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಲಿಂಗತಾರತಮ್ಯ ಹಾಗು ಶಾಂತಿಗಾಗಿ ದನಿಯೆತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಹಾಗು ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಆಯಾಮಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಹಾಗು ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಈಕೆ ಉಗಾಂಡದ ಮಾಕೆರೆರೆ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯದ ಸಂಗೀತ ನೃತ್ಯ ನಾಟಕ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಹಿರಿಯ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

Jessica Kaahwa, Ph.D., possesses a long and varied career in facilitation and designing of participatory communication methodology for development. She currently lectures in the Departments of Drama and Literature at Makerere University, which is where she also received her Masters degree. Widely traveled, Dr. Kaahwa’s undergraduate degree is from University of Benin, Nigeria where she also worked as a broadcaster with the External Service – Radio of Nigeria. Dr. Kaahwa went on to study Theatre History, Theory and Criticism at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received her Ph.D. in 2001. Dr. Kaahwa has been the architect of a number of national initiatives that have sought to use theatre and media as a constructive force in conflict settings and for health improvement. She has and continues to experiment with theories that expand the discourse on theatre practice. A good example is her recent experimentation with “Theatre for Personal Meaning” and “Theatre for Conflict Communication.” She is currently working on integrating “Process Theory” into Theatre Therapy practice.

A Case for Theatre in Service of Humanity

Today’s gathering is a true reflection of the immense potential of theatre to mobilize communities and bridge the divides.

Have you ever imagined that theatre could be a powerful tool for peace and reconciliation? While nations spend colossal sums of money on peace-keeping missions in violent conflict areas of the world, little attention is given to theatre as a one-on-one alternative for conflict transformation and management. How can the citizens of mother-earth achieve universal peace when the instruments employed come from outside and seemingly repressive powers?

Theatre subtly permeates the human soul gripped by fear and suspicion, by altering the image of self - and opening a world of alternatives for the individual and hence the community. It can give meaning to daily realities while forestalling an uncertain future. It can engage in the politics of peoples' situations in simple straightforward ways. Because it is inclusive, theatre can present an experience capable of transcending previously held misconceptions.

Additionally, theatre is a proven means of advocating and advancing ideas that we collectively hold and are willing to fight for when violated.

To anticipate a peaceful future, we must begin by using peaceful means that seek to understand, respect and recognize the contributions of every human being in the enterprise of harnessing peace. Theatre is that universal language by which we can advance messages of peace and reconciliation.

By actively engaging participants, theatre can bring many-a-soul to deconstruct previously held perceptions, and, in this way, gives an individual the chance of rebirth in order to make choices based on rediscovered knowledge and reality. For theatre to thrive, among other art forms, we must take the bold step forward by incorporating it into daily life, dealing with critical issues of conflict and peace.

In pursuance of social transformation and reformation of communities, theatre already exists in war-torn areas and among populations suffering from chronic poverty or disease. There are a growing number of success stories where theatre has been able to mobilize publics to build awareness and to assist post-war trauma victims. Cultural platforms such as the “International Theatre Institute” which aims at “consolidating peace and friendship between peoples” are already in place.

It is therefore a travesty to keep quiet in times like ours, in the knowledge of the power of theatre, and let gun wielders and bomb launchers be the peacekeepers of our world. How can tools of alienation possibly double as instruments of peace and reconciliation?

I urge you on this World Theatre Day to ponder this prospect and to put theatre forth as a universal tool for dialogue, social transformation and reform. While the United Nations spends colossal amount of monies on peacekeeping missions around the world, through the use of arms, theatre is a spontaneous, human, less costly and by far a more powerful alternative.

While it may not be the only answer for bringing peace, theatre should surely be incorporated as an effective tool in peacekeeping missions.

ರಂಗಮಂಡಲ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ನಾಳೆಯಿಂದ ಮೂರು ದಿನ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ನಾಟಕೋತ್ಸವ, ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಮತ್ತು ‘ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಪ್ರಭಾವ’ ಕುರಿತ ವಿಚಾರ ಮಂಥನ ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಇದು ಕಳೆದ 25 ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಕ್ರಿಯವಾಗಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ. ಬೀದಿ ನಾಟಕ, ಮಕ್ಕಳ ರಂಗಮೇಳ, ವಿಚಾರ ಸಂಕಿರಣ, ಸಂವಾದ, ನಾಟಕ ವಾಚನ, ರಂಗ ಶಿಬಿರ, ಕವಿಗೋಷ್ಠಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಯಯಾತಿ, ಸಿರಿಸಿಂಪಿಗೆ, ದೊಡ್ಡಪ್ಪ, ಆಮ್ರಪಾಲಿ, ಭಗವದಜ್ಜುಕೀಯ ನಾಟಕಗಳನ್ನು ರಂಗದ ಮೇಲೆ ತಂದಿದೆ.

ಷೇಕ್ಸ್‌ಪಿಯರ್‌ನ ‘ಮ್ಯಾಕ್‌ಬೆತ್’ ನಾಟಕವನ್ನು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಜಾನಪದ ರಂಗಪ್ರಕಾರವಾದ ಮೂಡಲಪಾಯ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದು ಪಾಶ್ಚಾತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಪೌರಾತ್ಯ ರಂಗಪ್ರಕಾರ, ರಂಗಶೈಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮನ್ವಯಗೊಳಿಸಿದೆ. ರಂಗಮಂಡಲದ ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ಮಹತ್ವದ ಯೋಜನೆಯೇ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ನಾಟಕೋತ್ಸವ.

ವ್ಯಾಸ ಮಹಾಕವಿಯ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಭಾರತದ ಜನಜೀವನ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ, ಜನಪದದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರಿದೆಯೊ ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ವೃತ್ತಿ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಜನಪದ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಧುನಿಕ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೂ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬೀರಿದೆ. ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಕಥೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಉಪಕಥೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯ ನಾಟಕಗಳು ರಚನೆಯಾಗಿವೆ. ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಪಾರಿಜಾತದಂತಹ ರಂಗಪರಂಪರೆ ಜನಪದ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜನ್ಮತಾಳಿದೆ. ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಆಧರಿಸಿದ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ, ತೆಂಕುತಿಟ್ಟು, ಬಡಗತಿಟ್ಟು ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಮೂಡಲಪಾಯ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ದೊಡ್ಡಾಟದ ಪ್ರಕಾರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಜನಿತವಾಗಿವೆ.

ಭಾರತದ ವಿವಿಧ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ಕುರಿತಾಗಿ ಇರುವ ನಾಟಕಗಳು, ಉಪಕಥೆಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುವಾದಗೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಕವಿ ಭಾಸ ಮಹಾಭಾರತ ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಬರೆದ ‘ಸ್ವಪ್ನವಾಸವದತ್ತ’ ಒಂದು ಮನೋಜ್ಞ ನಾಟಕ. ನಾಟಕೋತ್ಸವದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ನಾಟಕವೂ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ.

‘ಸ್ವಪ್ನ ವಾಸವದತ್ತ’ ಕೌರಾಂಬಿಯ ರಾಜ ಉದಯನ ಮತ್ತು ಆತನ ರಾಣಿ ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆಯರ ಕಥೆ ಹೊಂದಿದೆ. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅಭ್ಯುದಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಂತ್ರಿ ಯೌಗಂಧರಾಯಣ ಉದಯನನಿಗೆ ಮಗಧದ ರಾಜಕುಮಾರಿ ಪದ್ಮಾವತಿಯನ್ನು ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಲು ಯೋಜಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಸಂಕಟವಾದರೂ ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆ ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಸಮ್ಮತಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

ಯೌಗಂಧರಾಯಣ, ಉದಯನ ಬೇಟೆಗೆ ಹೋದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದು ಸತ್ತಳೆಂಬ ವದಂತಿ ಹಬ್ಬಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆ ತನ್ನ ತಂಗಿಯೆಂದು, ಆಕೆಯ ಗಂಡ ದೂರ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಪದ್ಮಾವತಿಯ ಬಳಿ ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ಇಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಉದಯನ, ಪದ್ಮಾವತಿಯರ ಮದುವೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆಯ ನೆನಪು ಉದಯನನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಸಿರಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಆತ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಪದ್ಮಾವತಿ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಆಗ ಆತ ವಾಸವದತ್ತೆ ಎಂದು ಕನವರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆಕೆ, ಗಲಿಬಿಲಿಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯೌಗಂಧರಾಯಣ ತನ್ನ ತಂತ್ರ ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

About the play: Ever wondered what it is like to follow your passion, to do your thing and send a message out to society? The zeal of a few college kids shows us that no matter what the odds are, if there is a will, there is a way. Despite of having been opposed by their college drama director, the love that they had for the father of their nation has led them to perform an act that clears some misinterpretations about him that people have in their minds. Did he love our nation as much as we know? Was the reason why he was assassinated in the open, justified? Was he against industrialization or was it the media who had the ball in their court? Was he in favor of the great partition or was he made a subject to the emotional cries of the Muslims? Although the man was made of strong mettle he also had a lot of humor in his style. His chance encounter with Charlie Chaplin shows us that even he knew how to have fun. There are many faces of Mahatma Gandhi which the world is unaware of. This off-set, on-stage play throws light on those hidden facts which complete his story.

About the team: It was a dream come true for a few youngsters, fresh out of college and ready to make a mark in the real world. The passion and enthusiasm which they showed while acting on stage in their college days has been never ending and this in turn led to the formation of ‘Ranga Vartula’, a theatre group newly into the profession, but ready to make an impact. Ranga which means ‘stage’ and Vartula which means ‘Circle’ signifies the completeness with which they perform each of their acts. Their performances do not fade away, they are there to stay.

They have the credit of a lot of marvelous plays on their shoulders and also have experienced the directorial skills of a few of the top-notch directors in the profession. "Raavi Nadiya Dandeyalli" directed by Malatesh Badigera, "Ooru Bhanga" directed by Chaya Malatesh, "Tudiyembo Tudi Ella" and "Huli Mattu Hudugi" directed by Krishna Murthy Koutaar, "Mojina Seemeyindaache Onduru" directed by Balaji Manohar and "Ayyana Kere" by Putani Ram Rao are few of the plays which the team members have performed. They have been finalists at ABHINAYA, a national level theatre festival, and have won awards at the national level competitions at BITS PILANI. They were adjudged the best theatre team at Visvesvaraya Technological University for two consecutive years.

The purpose of ‘Ranga Vartula’ is to present a series of plays as creditably as possible, to act them well and stage them well, and so provide the group and their friends—and such of the general public as can be won over—with the opportunity to see entertaining plays creditably presented. The team knows that it is competing with the motion pictures and with the occasional professional company; it knows that it is competing with whatever other entertainment agencies there are in town; but it accepts this competitive challenge, selects and builds its programs with these things in mind, and tries to make its own wares so attractive that they will sell in competition.

We at ‘Ranga Vartula’ believe in the motto that the two groups, theater workers and audience, work together as creators and critics, and both find their pleasure in the presentation of something new or beautiful, something freed from tradition, something creative, something which through artistic expression tends to widen the cultural horizon of life.

About the playwright: Prasanna, is an Indian theatre director and playwright from Karnataka. He is one of the pioneers of modern Kannada theatre. He graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD). He founded Samudaya and gave a creative direction to Kannada theatre in the 1970's with other activists. Prasanna lives in Heggodu in Karnataka. He is known for his organisational skills and new ideas and innovations in theatre. He is a Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee. He has directed plays for National School of Drama (Repertory Company, NSD), Ninasam, Rangamandal-Bhopal, Rangayana and worked with many theatre organizations of India. His direction includes Girish Karnad's Tughlaq, Gandhi, Life of Galileo, Thai (Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children), Acharya Tartuf, Lal Ghas Per Neele Ghode (traslation -Uday Prakash), Ek Lok Katha, Shakuntalam (Abhijñānaśākuntalam), Fujiyama, Dangeya Munchina Dinagalu, Kadadida Neeru, Uttar Ram Charit, Cupid's Broken Arrow, William Shakespeare 's Hamlet, Seema Paar(Play on Bharatendu Harishchandra) etc. Some of his dramas are: Uli, Seema Paar, Dangeya Munchina Dinagalu, Ondu Lokada Kathe, Haddu Meerida Haadi, Mahihmapura, Jangamada Badaku, Kondavaraaru. His work for visual media includes Docu-film "In search of an ideology" Direction- Prasanna, Assist direction-Arvind Gaur for Doordarshan, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India; Docu-film "Gokak" (V. K. Gokak) for Sahitya Akademi, Delhi; Creative Director- Taana -Bana (1991) , TV Serial produced by Press Trust of India (PTI-TV) and has also worked with ITV. He has won B V Karanth award , 2007 from National School of Drama and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, for Direction, 1999–2000.

About the director: A post-graduate in Kannada Literature from Karnatak University and a Diploma holder in Theatre Arts from Ninasam Theatre Institute in Heggodu, Pramod Shiggaon has been working in theatre since 1984 as Actor, Director and Designer. One of the most talented, young directors working in Kannada theatre today, Pramod has directed more than 20 plays, the most important among them being Mother Courage, Ghasiram Kotwal, Sultan Tippu, Andhayug, Pampa Bharatha Medea and Heegadre Hege?, ‘Aadaddella Olithe..?’ and ‘Kalavu’. He has worked extensively with youth and directed many award winning productions for college theatre groups. acted in a number of children’s His productions are known for psychological depth, fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. Blocking out bloggers

The blocking of a blogging website, even if only for a short period, raises the disturbing question of curbs imposed on free speech in India through executive fiat. There is a clear pattern of Internet censorship that is inconsistent with constitutional guarantees on freedom of expression. It is also at odds with citizen aspirations in the age of new media. What is worrying is that the rules governing online publication are being tinkered with periodically to facilitate such filtering. This is done under the Information Technology Act, 2000. The Department of Information Technology recently published the draft Information Technology (Due diligence observed by intermediaries guidelines) Rules, 2011 that specifically mark bloggers for scrutiny, and require intermediaries such as service providers not to themselves host or publish any information. Evidently, this can be interpreted to cover blogs and other websites. What is worse, the rules propose to authorise the intermediaries to remove access to ‘infringing' material if they themselves have actual knowledge or are asked to do so by a mandated authority. These are retrogressive provisions that weaken constitutional freedoms and the parent law. As it stands, the IT Act merely requires the intermediary to exercise due diligence and does not talk of not hosting or publishing information. Ideally, the only criterion online publications should have to meet is compliance with the general laws of the land.

The emergence of the WikiLeaks phenomenon and the use of online tools in North Africa and West Asia to inform and organise people underscore the power of citizen publishing. This is a new reality governments must learn to live with. Conflicts are bound to arise if the rules for online publication are modified specifically to prevent such publication. For instance, draft rule 3(2)(a) for intermediaries requires the user not to publish or display information that belongs to another person. Potentially, secret documents ferreted out by investigative journalists or whistleblowers in the public interest may be interpreted to belong to a third party — and blocked from the public domain. It is inconceivable that such a restriction could be applied to traditional media, which have a robust record of exposing corruption in high places. What all this makes clear is the need for wide public debate on any move to impose restrictions on online publishing. It is unacceptable that access to some websites is blocked through executive orders issued by technical bodies such as the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, with no explanation on why such action was taken

Food items: Since inefficient distribution has been found to be the culprit for the sky rocketing of food prices, the FM has proposed to focus on reducing Production and Distributions bottlenecks. Food, vegetables, Meat etc will show an easing of prices in the medium term future.
Education: A higher allotment of funds in the form of over 24% hike as compared to last year for the Education Sector.
Income tax: More modernization of the taxation system is being mooted. A new form called "SUGAM" will make it easier for small tax payers to file their returns.

Focus on Cold Chains and Storage could also lead to efficiency and in return reduction in prices and better quality vegetables reaching our kitchens.
Infrastructure is King: Rs 214000 Crores has been allotted for infrastructure for 2011-12. An increase of over 23% over the last year. We can see better highways and transport systems in the near future which could lead to reduction in inflation in the longer term.
Bring the money back: As expected the FM has taken note of the hue and cry over Black Money. Many new initiatives have been mooted to bring back black money in circulation.
Air travel and Medical aid to cost more: Service tax on air travel has been hiked. Hospitals with over 25 beds will have to pay tax on all services. So those posh hospitals could be giving you higher bills in the coming year.
Bottom line: Overall a very low key budget that has not given great cheer to any particular sector except for Agriculture and Infrastructure. But to give credit to the FM, this focus on these two most critical sectors will only mean that in the longer term all of us get to benefit from better Food stability and Better infrastructure.

No filing of tax returns if salary is only income

New Delhi: In a big relief from cumbersome tax filing process for the salaried class, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today proposed to exempt them from filing tax returns unless they have other sources of income.
The government will be issuing a notification exempting ''classes of persons'' from the requirement of furnishing income tax returns, said the Memorandum to the Finance Bill 2011.
The decision, which will come into effect from June 1, 2011, will reduce the compliance burden on small taxpayers, it added.
Salaried taxpayers who do not have other sources of income and whose incomes are subject to Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) will be excluded from filing returns.
"Therefore, in cases where there is no other source of income, filing of a return is duplication of existing information," the Memorandum said.
Every person whose income exceeds the taxable limit is required to file return of income.

Serious attention should be paid to Valmiki's Ramayana, Buddhist and Jaina versions

The different versions of the Ramayana represent the articulation of different communities and are “reflections of alternate perceptions” that exist in society. Serious attention should be paid to these texts, Romila Thapar, eminent historian of ancient India, said on Wednesday.

Delivering a lecture at the ‘Ramayana' festival, organised by the Adishakti Laboratory of Theatre Arts Research at Auroville here, on the variants in retelling of the story, Ms. Thapar elaborated on the diverse facets through which historians viewed the text. For this, she made a comparison of three different versions of the tale: Valmiki's Ramayana in Sanskrit, the Buddhist version contained in the Jataka Tales in Pali and the Jaina version in the ‘Paumacariyam' in Prakrit.

She said many additions were made to Valmiki's version in a span of 800 years from 400 BC to 400 AD. For example, Hanuman handing over Rama's ring to Sita was held by historians as an episode added to the tale at a later time. “These additions reflected the perspectives of the period of composition.”

The story also differed in each of the versions, she said. In the Buddhist variant, Dasaratha was the king of Benaras and not Ayodhya. Rama, Lakshmana and Sita were siblings born to the first wife of Dasaratha. To protect his children from his second wife, the king sent the three in exile to the Himalayas. Twelve years later, the trio came back to the kingdom with Rama and Sita ruling as consorts. The kidnapping of Sita did not find a place in this version.

“The ideals of Buddhism and its emphasis on the impermanence of life were crafted into the tale when Bharatha met Rama in the forest and tried to convince him to return home,” she said.

Pointing to archaeological evidence from Orissa and other parts of the country and the concept of lineage that played a vital part in the then society, Ms. Thapar said such variants in the story could represent the confrontation of groups during the transition from a clan-based society to kingship.

Noting that the 19th century historians focussed more on proving the authenticity of the Valmiki Ramayana, she said the questions “who” was writing the text and “why” and what was the nature of societies then were more important than the historicity of individual characters in the tale.

Tagore’s "tash ki desh" is one of the most beloved of all his plays. An earlier attempt was made to render it in Kannada, but it did not make any ripple.

But the present attempt by K.P.Vasudevan is an adaptation which is fascinating. The play is about change. A prince from an alien land with a vision to create freshness, in quotidian life, arrives at the island, where the people and life are two dimensional. Everything is bound by rules and regulations. The people who are nothing but playing cards, lead a life of tradition, obedience and torpor. Nothing ever happens here. By questioning, the prince brings in a whiff of fresh air which changes everything. People rebel, they start dreaming, singing and try to find beauty and pain as acceptable. Poetry enters into their life, hence the change towards a bright and creative future.

Vasudevan while rendering the above play of Tagore has taken pains to remain faithful to the original nuances. He has strived hard to do justice to the silken quality of the poetry found in the original. He has also tried to adapt it to suit the Kannada ethos by a couple of major changes from the original.

Firstly, instead of playingcards, the local “Ganjifa” names are used. This has helped in creating an esoteric atmosphere. Secondly, Vasudevan has tried to bring in some contemporary issues. The play wherever possible, in a satirical way comments on the socio-cultural world around us. It also involves the political issues, especially the corruption rampant in the state of Karnataka. The land grab scam, the illegal mining scams become part of the listless traditional corrupt ruling class of the island. Land reclaimed from the sea is limited on the island. The politicos are stealing land in acres. The next generation may not have land to grow fruits and flowers. People are docile and accept this as religion and tradition. It is left to the prince to organize a change in the static way of life. Reclaiming the land from the land grabbers is part of the liberation and the sweeping change that takes place. The play ends on a note of hope and dynamic ethos replacing the dead beat static, colorless and emotionless way of life on the island.

ಡಾ.ವಿಜಯಾ, ಹಿರಿಯ ರಂಕ ಕರ್ಮಿಗಳು, ನಾಟಕಕಾರರು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತರ ಸಾಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಹಾಗು ನಮ್ಮ ಇಂದಿನ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮೌಲ್ಯ ವಿಹೀನ ಗೊಳಿಸಿವೆ, ಇಂಥದ್ದರ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಕೂಡ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ಲೋಕ ಮಾತ್ರ ಹೊರಗುತ್ತಿಗೆಯ ಗೀಳಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಗುಳಿದು ಅಸ್ಮಿತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದೆ, ಈ ಸಾಧಕರನ್ನು ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದು ನಿಜದ ಸಂಗತಿ ಡಾಕ್ಟರೇಟ್ ಉಪಾದಿ ಬರೀ ನೆಪವಷ್ಟೇ ಎಂದರು.
ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಖ್ಯಾತ ರಂಗಭೂಮಿಯ ಗಾಯಕ ಪರಮಶಿವನ್ ಅವರಿಂದ ರಂಗಗೀತೆಗಳ ಗಾಯನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರು ಆನಂದಿಸಿದರು.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಯುವ ಮನಸ್ಸುಗಳನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾದ ಓದಿಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಲು ಎರಡು ದಿನಗಳ ಕಮ್ಮಟವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕನ್ನಡದ ಬರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಗ್ರಹಿಸುವ ಹಲವು ಬಗೆಗೆಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಈ ಕಮ್ಮಟ ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಗತ್ತು ಕಂಡ ಅಪರೂಪದ ಚಿಂತಕ ಕಿರಂ ಅವರ ನೆನಪಿನ ಈ ಕಮ್ಮಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳೆದ ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ಚಾಲನೆ ದೊರಕಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ಕಿರಂ ನಮ್ಮ ನಡುವೆಯಿಂದ ಮರೆಯಾದ ಆರು ತಿಂಗಳ ನಂತರ ಈ ಕಮ್ಮಟ ಸಾಲೆಯ ಸರಣಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಗೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ರಾಜ್ಯದ ನಾನಾ ಭಾಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕಮ್ಮಟ ನಡೆಸಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶವಿದೆ. ಮೊದಲ ಕಮ್ಮಟ-ಇದೇ ಜನವರಿ 29-30 ರಂದು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯಿತು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡ ಈ ಕಮ್ಮಟವನ್ನು ಸಮುದಾಯ, ಕಾವ್ಯಮಂಡಲ, ಕಾವ್ಯಭೂಮಿ, ರಂಗನಿರಂತರ ಮುಂತಾದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಸೇರಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದವು. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುವ ಮುಂದಿನ ಕಮ್ಮಟಗಳನ್ನು ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಸಕ್ತ ಸಂಘಟೆನಗಳು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಡೆಸಲು ಮುಂದಾಗಬಹುದು.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಈ ಮೊದಲ ಕಮ್ಮಟವನ್ನು ಡಾ.ಕೆ.ವಿ.ನಾರಾಯಣ ಅವರು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಡಾ.ಕೆ.ವಯ್.ನಾರಾಯಣಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಹಾಗು ಶಶಿಧರ್ ಭಾರಿಘಾಟ್ ರವರುಗಳು ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದರು. ಕನ್ನಡದ ವಿವಿಧ ಪಠ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯುವ, ಓದುವ, ಕೇಳುವ, ಚರ್ಚಿಸುವ ಹಾಗು ಬರೆಯುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಗಳಿಗೆ ಶಿಬಿರಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ತೆರೆದುಕೊಂಡರು. ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡು ಉತ್ತರಗಳನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರತರಾದರು. ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಡಾ.ಕೆ.ವಿ.ನಾರಾಯಣ ಅವರು ಆರಿಸಿ ತೆಗೆದ ಕೆಲವು ಬರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

೭. ಕುಮಾರವ್ಯಾಸ ಭಾರತದ ಸಭಾಪರ್ವ

೮. ಪಂಪಭಾರತದ ಖಾಂಡವವನದಹನ

೪೦ ಶಿಬಿರಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ವರ್ತಮಾನದ ನೆಲೆಯಿಂದ ಈ ಪಠ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುವ-ಅರ್ಥೈಸುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಕ್ಕುಬಂದರು. ಇವರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಇದ್ದರೆ ಕೆಲವರು ಕನ್ನಡ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರುಗಳು ಸಹ ಇದ್ದರು. ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಓದು-ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು. ವಿವಿಧ ಗುಂಪುಗಳ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಡಾ.ಕೆ.ವಿ.ಎನ್ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರು. ಕೆವಿಎನ್ ಕೂಡ ತಮ್ಮ ಎಂದಿನ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯ ಆಲಿಸುವಿಕೆ, ಹಾಸ್ಯಮಯ ಸಂವಾದಗಳ ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ತಮ್ಮ ಅಪಾರ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಹೊಸ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದ ಮಾದರಿಗಳ, ಕಾಣ್ಕೆಗಳ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿದರು.

ಇಂತಹ ಕಮ್ಮಟ-ಚಿಂತನೆ-ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿರಂ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಶಿಷ್ಯವೃಂದದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸದಾ ನಿರತರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಇತರೆ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಸಂಘಟನೆಗಳು ಈ ಮಾದರಿಯನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲೂ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ಮುಂದೆಬರಲು ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಯೋಚಿಸಿ, ಯೋಜಿಸಿ, ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಯಿಸಿ.
